Nelson’s Market Precinct sits at the confluence of a vital ecological system, valuable industry, and notable urban infrastructure. Its revitalization is imperative to the ‘Vision’ for the area, as generated through public consultation and established in municipal planning policies.
An integrated design approach to all future development in the Precinct establishes it as the cultural hub that underpins a neighbourhood with a sense of place, vibrance, connectedness and resilience.
Seven ‘Design Strategies’ correct existing site deficiencies and manifest the Vision for the Precinct. These strategies include: (1) Connection and Access, (2) A Path That Unifies, (3) Infrastructural Logic (4) Gateway Sculptures, (5) a Middle-Ground Park & Creekside Promenade, (6) Micro Hydro and Zero-Carbon Infrastructure, and (7) Flexible Parking Plazas.
